Lovely capture.

They're on the ground quite often. At one of my favourite photo-spots there are frequently as many as three around my feet!

They must be very tame and trusting, Malcolm - would that be on a Nature Reserve? The birds visiting our garden are always on the lookout for some predator or another.

Fine shot once again, Sylvia: interesting to read the above as I too don't recall seeing them on the ground too often either.

Unusual capture Sylvia, we don't often see these ground feeding. Lovely shot.

A 'Red Breasted Nuthatch' Sylvia!!! Wink
They frequent the USA mainly.
Eurasian Nuthatch definately and not uncommon under feeders on the ground, see it a lot at the Feed Station picking easily at the scraps.
Lovely detail and eye with excellent dof.
Not Sitta canadensis though

"Red breasted" title and tag copied and pasted in error from my upload on on an international site, Richard. Haven't mentioned "canadensis" anywhere though Wink

I seem to have one as a resident of my bird feeding station - it likes to hide peanuts all over the place, including burying them in the border soil. I wonder if this was foraging or hiding things - whatever the activity the image is great Sylvia.

A fabulous shot of this lovely little nuthatch, really unusual to see one on the ground. Makes a refreshing change from the usual shots of them posing on tree trunks

A nutti nutti - on the ground - not on the tree. super capture, not one you get every day!
