Hover Fly (I think)

By teocali
The fatsia plant in the garden, which is in bloom at the moment, was swarming with different sorts of flies this afternoon, so I had a practise with the macro lens, on a tripod.
I'm not sure if this is a hover fly - would appreciate positive ID -
UPDATE:- its a Dronefly, which is a type of Hoverfly - many thanks to Alistair (alliec) for the ID Smile

The two shots have so much detail and the wings are fantastic. - gary

My vote for #1. Both are superbly detailed, especially on the wings but #1 has the cleaner background and slightly better focus on the fly's head.

Great details on the wings. It is a hoverfly, or a variety of. I did some images in the summer and looked them up. Apparently unlike wasps, they only have one pair of wings.
