Not for the faint-hearted! Sometimes one has to just grab the camera and shoot - I was driving along a forest track with the camera on the passenger seat, when this wild fox, carrying a mouthful of unfortunate little animals, trotted down a sidetrack towards me. The camera was in manual and set for brighter light conditions, but I had no choice but to aim out of the car window, press the button and hope. These were very under-exposed and I have rescued as much detail as possible from the RAW images, but there is still noise and softness.
I felt this was such an unusual shot that I just wanted to share it with you.
Settings:- F/5.6 1/500sec ISO200 420mm manual handheld

This will be my last upload for a week or so as I have to go away again (no internet connection) but I will catch up with you all when I return.

Many thanks, as always, for your continued support Smile

Hi Sylvia!

I really like the shot!! You have captured a great moment here and sometimes that is all that is required. I think the fact that it isn't the perfect photo in technical terms gives this a far more murderous and raw feel!!

Well seen and taken... I have put up a couple of mods... food for thought really.

Andy

Hi Andy
"Due to the softness of the image i used that as the basis for this Mod"

Two super mods - you have really made the eyes come alive. Love both versions - the mono colourised one works so well. Would love to know what you did Smile

Wow! The subject matter is so compelling that the softness is barely noticeable. For me, #1 is rather stronger. I think it's because the lighting is much better (especially on the catch) but also there's something about the pose that I can't quite put my finger on.

I'd keep the camera in the footwell, though, so braking for wildlife doesn't risk damaging those shiny white lenses. Might also be worth leaving the camera in aperture priority mode so you're more ready for unplanned shooting or, at least, having an aperture like f/5.6 dialled in so you can flick to it straight away.

The epitome of what the words (Grab Shot) really does mean.
What an amazing sight to see, 10/10 for your reflexes, for having the camera as your passenger and for not missing a great photo opportunity.
A truly great wildlife shot very seldom seen by any of us. Well done Sylvia, be proud to have this in your portfolio.
