The Female ........

By teocali
........is deadlier than the Male !

Had a wonderful day on the South Downs yesterday, in the company of Mike (greyheron) The wild Adders are now just coming out of hibernation and at this time are at their most venomous. This rather beautiful female Adder obliged by posing for a while, a foot or so away from the hood of my macro lens.

My thanks to everybody for their support of my last upload, with special thanks to Steve (SteveMackay) to his User Award - really appreciated and highly valued Smile

How can you get that close? Do they not panic and strike? It's a great shot and I admire how brave you are.

Not really brave - you just lie very still at ground level and as long as you make no sudden movements they will not strike as they only strike if threatened. One actually slithered into my lens hood and curled up, reluctant to come out Grin Naturally I couldn't focus that close, LOL but Mike got some shots !
Well captured.

Great wildlife photography Sylvia. I would not do this as I have a great fear of snakes. Fortunately, as you say, they are timid creatures and tend to disappear into the undergrowth as footsteps approach.
