At Maro, near Nerja on the Spanish Costa, this view from the rear isn't often seen. It was recently painted a deep pink and cream which incensed the locals, although of course, most structures, inside and out were painted originally. Greek statues, catherderals, all were brightly painted. What we see today is not how the locals saw them.

I deliberately shot against the light using three exposures merged as HDR in Photomatix later. In Lightroom I reduced Clarity somewhat to emphasise the lighting under the arch. The distorted verticals are unavoidable of course and are part of the composition.

Don't mind the verticals at all. A very strange effect indeed. Doesn't actually look HDR, but does look less than real. However, that seems to work rather well.

So, interesting and an outdoor HDR effect that I actually rather like. Not many of them about.

The perspective makes the image, it soars. My only criticism here is that the sky seems stronger, more substantial than the arches, I would like to give them a bit more body. I might try b&w, just because...

The brickwork was painted a few years ago, an odd shade of pink. I too felt the structural tone looked out of balance but trying to bring it down a bit made it look dull and I wanted to keep the luminous lighting. Lightning the sky may work better.
