Spitfire

By TheAviator
This Vickers Supermarine Spitfire Mk 9 was taken near Duxford when I was given a flight in a Dragon Rapide for my birthday. The Rapide departed from Duxford and, once at it's cruising altitude, was joined by the Spitfire which flew next to us in formation for about 15 minutes. It was close enough for me to use the 18 - 55 mm lens to get this shot. This is definitely the best photo I have taken of this magnificent aircraft.

The germans asked during world war 2 Herman Goring , the top officer of the luftwaffe what had happen during the battle of Britain . He responded give me 100 spitefires and I'll take britain . Thats how good the spitfire was .

A wonderful shot, but it does cry out for a little processing. A little tweak in contrast, levels and clarity and this would sing. Lest you think that would be cheating, cameras are designed to capture as much information as possible, just like a negative. This leads to a low contrast, slightly muddy image, and like in the days of film the photographer has to bring out the best of the image. It must have been fun to get up in the Rapide too.

Terrific present and quite an opportunity.

A little dark perhaps, and here it is a bit brighter. The downside of brightening an underexposed shot is that noise is amplified.
