Bloodroot

By taggart
Bloodroot
Sanguinaria canadensis

A member of the poppy family, this North American native stands 4-7 inches tall and grows in sheltered woodlands. The American Indians used the juice from underground rhizomes (which is blood red) to dye baskets, clothing, as war paint and as an insect repellant.

In just a few hours we will be traveling to Rhode Island to visit family! Likely we will be too busy for much internet time--
