Blue Iris

By Tianshi_angie
The fence is my biggest problem so I have tried to darken it without it being too obvious. I tried with a piece of card behind the iris but I wasn't happy with that.

It's so difficult sometimes to isolate a flower. There's always something going on in the background. This is lovely. Sadly, all my irises have flowered and are now withering. They only lasted a few days.

Thanks Chris. They do only last a short while Chris which is such a shame as I think they are so beautiful. I have quite a few and luckily they seem to flower at slightly different times so I have some still in bud and others finished.

I think the fence is nicely suppressed here!

Often, f/1.8 is a risk for closeups, as the focus needs to be so precise - but you've got it pretty much sorted here - and a photogenic insect in the mix!

The fence is not too bad, taking images of flowers outdoors/in situ is difficult, especially when dealing with backgrounds.
This Iris is a beautiful colour and the detail is good.
Again, you will always fight with the light outside, especially on reflective petals, same would apply to birds too as their feathers bounce the light all over the place.
At F1.8 you have done well here, I applaud your efforts.

Very good accurate focus for f/1.8.

Well done.

Ive uploaded a mod with comments. You should try next time setting your White Balance to match the light, so daylight or sunny would give an overall warmer tone to this. Ive also cropped space off the top.

You have done well to reduce the impact of the background, and the iris is beautifully captured.
