Hungry Stare

By tigertimb
Thought that I was long overdue a tiger shot Smile

This is one of the young tigers at Marwell zoo shot in 2005, who was up high and against the sky.
There was a kid a few feet to my right, which explains the stare and the tongue out.

Thankyou everyone for all the votes and comments on the red fox - I'm very chuffed.

Better viewed large if you have the time, all votes and comments are much appreciated

Iso 400, f11, 500mm, 1/200 sec
The crop is as shot, increased the contrast to compensate for going through the bars and the saturation a little. I haven't applied any noise reduction to try and keep the detail in the fur and then sharpened.
But I am noticing the difference in detail compared to the new lens and camera

I think he looks both hungry and disappointed - as if the kid you mention would not make much of a snack Wink

Thanks everyone for the comments - I'll sort out a closer crop at a more respectible hour this morning.
Sadly Moira, the answer is 'no' although I would love that! Actually I had a book as a toddler that my parents read me constantly at my request called "Tim the Tiger". My love of Tigers has been constant every since - beauty, majesty, and power, all in one, with a large helping of cute when they choose Smile

Rather worrying to be looked at so intently by a large feline, albeit a young one!
A great shot

If I'd got to choose I'd say the tighter crop works better as the stark white background does overpower the image.
Just a thought but have you considered using a gradient mask to add some colour to the sky?
Pin sharp detail though and nice crisp colours.

Thanks for the comment Paul; I loved the young tiger's pose in this shot, but I do agree about the white and it would be lovely if it hadn't been a completely featureless sky.
But I'm fairly certain my editing skills aren't currently up to the task of doing a convincing job of modifying the sky. I'm getting better at adjusting colours etc, happy to clone out small objects and have drifted down the dark side a little with blurring backgrounds on a couple of shots; but my knowledge of layers is almost none.
Something to rectify for certain; but I'm also still having a personal debate of how much to modify a photo where currently the line stops short of adding anything in.
