Wedding Bank

By tigertimb
I thought that I was long overdue uploading a few shots from the 2nd wedding I did this summer for some more friends of mine; although I promise there won't be nearly as many as the first one Smile

We scouted the reception hotel the week before and didn't find anything suitable until we tried the car park of the shop next door! It had this bank of flowers which was just big enough to get this shot without showing either the car park or the road behind.

I should learn how to do it properly, but I have experimented with softening the image a little. I blended the original with a soft focus version and was fairly happy with the result in #1; #2 is the original and #3 is a bit softer again, but probably too much.

Would value any comments and suggestions, particularly regarding the softening

Sorry I've missed so many shots whilst I've been away from EPZ for a while; off with a very pleasant stomach bug Sad

I was just thinking I haven't seen anything from you for a little while.

This is a first rate image of the happy couple. It has a touch of originality and is one that they well treasure

Glad to see you back, hope you're better now.
I really like #1 and #3, both rather old-fashioned, romantic-type images and jolly good too. The original is fine compositionally but I'm certain needed the soft-focus to fit the occasion.
I have rarely used soft-focus and wouldn't know how to go about it in PS; it's the one thing for which I would revert to Picasa which has a very good filter - just a shame it's so aggressive in its treatment of the overall files!

I know a bank whereon a wild flower grows...
Welcome back! This is sweet and delightful. I guess V1 is the romantic option, but I favour V2 simply because the faces are so much stronger. The wild flower meadow is a wonderful idea, I wish more wedding photographers had that sort of imagination. These are the memories that the couple will treasure, after all.

I like V1 best, - its got that fairy tale look to it.

Im surprised Moira doesnt prefer the romantic version....... and Bill does, - thats backwards!

Between v1 and v2, I like v1 the best. However, I am also partial to v2, as I like the clarity and color of it.
Welcome back, and hope you are much better.

Glad you're feeling better Tim. IMHO and I'm no expert, I like the the original best o/all as I feel the softening applied has left the BG on the other 2 looking a little washed out. Maybe it could be better if you applied the softening just to the skin tones. At the end of the day I would think It's down to the happy couple to decide which they like best. However, this is out of my comfort zone so please don't take too much notice.

Beautiful shot at all version!
I also liked V1 best, the colours in it seem more alive and a bit more natural then V3.
Lovely capture, very romantic.
