Hi Tim, good to see the new uploads, I have a feeling though that the small size of the images is bashing some of the sharpness from these and I would suggest when downsizing to see if adding a touch of sharpening helps before uploading. I know mine suffer in the process even at the 1000 pixel size and I always process a copy just for here using as much sharpen as I can get away with.
Re the York pic I understand what you mean re dealing with night shots and a tip often given on here is to try to take them in the golden hour just as the suns last rays still put some light into the sky rather than the blackness of a later shot, My Newcastle shots are a good example of how the images change when darkness falls as they were all taken in one session and some of them would have looked better taken just a tad earlier so warrant another trip.
Re this shot I would like to see a colour version for comparison but the mono works ok, it looks as though it was difficult lighting conditions and a compromise with exposure has given sufficient detail where it matters though the original I suspect will be much better.
I hope you are enjoying the site and gleaning some practical tips and ideas from the wealth of great photographers on here, it can get addictive though lol.
Cheers for the comment on my Paddy's Hole shot, glad you like it, I must admit though it's not my favourite, the cranes and things in the distance have a lot of red colour aberration which annoys me and as it was one of my earlier attempts in photoshop processing the original was ruined by my messing and I never thought to save the original unmessed with file too which is a shame because I could have made it look far better in my opinion.

All the best, Sam
Be good, Sam
