A PAWN IN THE GAME

By Tish1
Hey, what can I say, I'm made up; many thanks for taking the time to view and comment on my previous upload 'Another Drop In The Ocean'. Really special thanks must go to Walter [gajewski] and I'm glad I don't have to pronounce that, also Mark[tc] and Kathryn [Kathrynlouise] for generously bestowing their treasured UA's

Here is another water drop image and I think I have finally got the focus issue resolved; the Key is in manual focusing rather than AF, don't ask me why, I don't know what goes on under the bonnet of my car, but I can still drive it.

I don't think the water ripples are as good as the previous upload and I suspect that has something to do with changing the height, but I am pleased with the focus.

Please enjoy my little offering and don't be shy about offering input, it is always appreciated and in my case, very much needed.

Tish

Wow, Tish. I thought the previous shot was sharp but this one looks tack sharp. VERY nicely done. I like them both but give the edge to V1.

PS I just caught the title -- very clever. It does look like a chess pawn.

V2 is the original, no effect, just as it comes.

I think V2 is the best. Retains enough colour information to make it sparkle and enhances the ripple effect. Focus is perfect

My thoughts on manual focus as opposed to auto focus is it is most likely quicker to focus on the important bit..and you need speed in this case Tish.
This is great and such a vast improvement on the first upload of these water drop images....Have a Gem for V2GrinGrinGrin

GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin brilliant!

Why MF makes the difference is that once you focus, it remains focused exactly where you want it. If you use AF, it will focus in a different place almost every time as the splash varies, and you get blurred images due to mis-focus.

I was reminded of My Fair Lady:
"The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain!"
"By George, she's got it! By George, she's got it!"
"Now, once again where does it rain?"
"On the plain! On the plain!"
"And where's that soggy plain?"
"In Spain! In Spain!"

this is a super image that goes so very well with the title..
sometimes it appears amusing how much effort it is to get the image of pin-sharp pawn..
but it was worth it, I suppose, by the result.. Smile

another thing - I saw a frozen pawn in the holy caves of Amarnath (India).. It was frozen for more than three years.. and only it remained there firm and solid.. and after all it looks all the massive tenacity and storms of weather change, and its brilliance and luster was simply to impress the photographer so that it would photograph it.. simply to even faintly impress him!! more than 3 years!! amazing.. I love the image of V1 Tish. Manual focus cNbe faster and more accurate. We used to do it,all that way, after all.
