Tai O boats

By tom_earwaker
This is from a fishing village on Lantau island in Hong Kong. I've cropped a bit of sky off the top and increased vibrance a bit to make the colours stand out more.
Really I glad I took my utra wide lens on this trip, ended up using it for more than hlf of my photos. Think I'm becoming a wide guy, or maybe just eating too much...
Thanks for looking!

This suggests a long-standing and mature easy lifestyle. I would crop half way to the red float on the left to go with the properly limited palin sky. TG

The seaside as a working environment. I like this a lot. And I do approve of the band of rocks at the bottom of the frame, that gives stability and it tells me exactly where I am standing in all of this.

Two things I wanted to do immediately - crop off some empty space top and left, and get rid of the cut-off structure on the right. And get rid of the distracting rope bottom right and the bit of white string in the water. They don't connect to anything, they have no obvious function...

Modification uploaded. I also worked a bit to bring more contrast in the foreground and boosted saturation a wee bit. Nothing extreme. I was surprised to see that this is Hong Kong, it looks very much like English light!

A perfectly good pictorial record. just lacks a bit of punch. I suspect very flat lighting. Might respond to a bit of a contrast boost.

Nice shot. Loads of colours and a sense of a working village.

Its a little lighter on the left, perhaps dues to the Sun at an angle, (did you use a lens hood?) and youve pointed the lens down, so a little lens correction cant hurt.

Really doent spoil the image as a nice holiday reminder, though adding that bit contrast and evening the exposure left to right does add some "weight"

My first thought was the same as Paul's - a lack of punch, in a good record shot. However, Moira's analysis and modification sort the issue entirely, and make the image as engaging as it deserves to be. It's amazing how good a little bit of polishing can be...

Hi,
I just left the boats in - it is interesting to have a wider image also - but since you mentioned the boats I thought of just showing the boats; I gave some punch to the colours too by reducing exposure and highlights.
