Insects aren't the easiest things to photograph...especially dragonflies that tend to fly off when you get near.

With this shot you have a busy background so the dragonfly is hard to see. If you can move a bit closer the background will start to become more blurred and the insect will stand out better.

You could have also moved a bit to the right so the dragonfly would have been in front of the plane green patch and would have stood out more.

Make sure you set your lens to the 55mm setting so it makes the insect bigger in the viewfinder

or in time get a bigger lens. welcome to the site and enjoy it, when i first came on here i didnt know much but thanks to all the folks on here i think i am improving. Just keep putting your work up you will get all the advice you need.
