Dublin Castle

By tony64
Good morning all and many thanks for all your feedback on last weeks 'Metroland' series.

As its Saturday, its pub sign challenge day and today I'm in Parkway, Camden Town, North London.

The Dublin Castle nowadays has a reputation for live music, its where 'Madness' started in the 1980's. But it was originally built as a watering hole for all the Irish builders in the area, of which there were many! Around the corner is the Edinburgh Castle for the Scots, and in Primrose Hill is the Pembroke Castle, for the Welsh of course! I haven't yet found out whether there was a designated pub for the English yet! But then, there were so many pubs around in those days anyway! I Haven't found a Windsor Castle yet! If anyone knows......

This was to avoid the regular fights that broke out when these drinkers drank together!

Thanks for looking,

Tony

Good morning, Tony, and a very early one too!
I have actually been to Dublin Castle - yer ackshual Castle in Dublin - and it looks just like the painting: so somebody has been doing a good job copying somebody else Wink

Excellent b/g information too, about the labourers I mean, though I must say I might well try and visit the place one day as I have actually heard of 'Madness', they're my faves.......

You were up at the crack of dawn today! Know this area a bit, my Nan lived in Camden Town (great Madness tune that!), quite near the Brecknock Arms pub. Great pair of images, both showing buildings full of character.
Have a good weekend.

I used to live in Camden in the 80s but can't place this pub but I'm sure it was lively and interesting. Lots of good live music around there. Tks for the memory.

Like the shots, - bit of an exposure/colour balance issue affecting V2, - loaded a mod, - and a closer crop of v2, - there could be a shot there of the woman also.
