In my honest opinion there are 2 major faults with this capture.
The iso speed has been set far to high which combined with the heavy sharpening has created a lot of noise in the image.
And the background does no justice at all to the model, It looks a bit like a beach to me. If thats the only background available stand the model a good distance away from it to reduce its presence and smooth it out more.

Hi Paul thanks for the comments. What you say is true. I had to use high ISO (1000) as the area was packed with people and pro 'togs' (the image is heavily cropped), it was impossible to use flash. The backround was the only available and as I was unable to direct the model it was the best I could do. I used neat image to clear some of the noise. The worst part was I had to take photo's later of other Girls at this prom and, forgot to adjust the iso back down, ruining nearly all of the shots! Iso 1000 is nothing for new models of camera but on a D70 it is very noticable.
