The colours are too intensive for me, the whole thing looks a bit overcooked,

It works for me, Adam. It's a well- composed, beautifully lit scene.

Thanks for your kind comments on my shot. I use a compact because I take most of my pictures on long walks, sometimes up to 14 miles long which I couldn't do with an SLR and lenses.

I just had to take a look at your portfolio after your much appreciated comment on my reportage upload, and I like this image very much indeed. It has a warmth to it, and a 3D quality which is very nice. Expertly done, IMHO.

I'm liking this! I've yet to attempt having a go at HDR and if my images turn out half as good as this, then i will be vey happy.
