Smartphone Challenge 1 - Sunset at Bugibba, Malta

Smartphone Challenge 1 - Sunset at Bugibba, Malta by alistairfarrugia

You've said it your self really, Alistair - you're gone beyond the capability of the phone, or at least at that resolution. There's only so much detail you can drag out of shadows like that without artefacts emerging

It's very soft but I don't think it would stand any sharpening without introducing worse pixellation.

Compositionally, it's a pity you have the base of the lamp breaking the bottom of the frame - not sure if you could have taken a few steps back for a wider shot.

So, potentially a lovely shot, but the quality means it would only be good as a memory shot for you if you didn't have your camera with you

Westbury White Horse Wiltshire

Westbury White Horse Wiltshire by Moonrakerman

A lovely shot and I just love those wispy cirruses in the sky.

Can I make a constructive suggestion? If you were to crop from the right to a square format, you would have much more of a balance between the real horse and the white horse. Although you might like the house, I think it's one element too many that distracts from the others - and, especially as it's so close to the edge of the frame and tending t drag the eye out of it and away from the other subjects.

Just my honest thoughts, great shot either way

See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil by HelenaJ

Very well conceived and pulledoff. A bit of small constructive stuff, but maybe the arms are too long - just the hands might be better?

Lovely anyway

Kick by missmoon

Perfect timing and looks as if it was so easy. Even the shape of the clouds complement them. Exquisite, have my UA Smile

I love cloudscapes too, so this is the bee's knees for me

Thanks Rog, a lovely compliment. I admit I'm blessed with where I live, so glad I can share it with someone

Hi Geoff, thanks for your comment. It can be hard to give critique when the poster has given no indication on the description as to wah tthey were trying to achieve. I've asked JoolsB to have a look and give his own comments - he's another member of the crit. team, a fine landscaper who I'm sure will add something helpful

One of my very favourites Mari, I love your subtle use of light and colour especially, and you do justice to the beautiful landscape you live among

Best wishes

You have a great kncak of seeing things differently to the normal - lovely and varied. As said below, never a dull moment here - great stuff

Hi Mickael. I must admit after re-reading I thought maybe it was just coming over a different way "in the translation". Also maybe I was reading too much into it, but thanks for responding well to the comment. I do agree though that as you have it now it's just fine. Keep the uploads coming, you'll learn a lot and you can teach us a lot as well. Most of all enjoy your photography and especially your time on here Smile

Bev, thanks for your comments, glad you like my 3ork. But but I have to say reading your profile you are so negative about your own stuff...you have an excellent eye for composition and that to me is one of the holy trinity - conmpoition, light and luck. Change your page and be more positive...just my advice, lovely to connect with you
