This week we decided to go out to Sourton Tors near Okehampton, they are an interesting set of rocky outcrops that are actually one large Tor despite the plural in the name, however, when we got to the car park we couldn’t see the Tors for the thick low cloud and once again the wind had some quite heavy rain on it. We decided to head for the shelter of Burrator Reservoir again to try to get something for the day. Because of all the recent rain, the overflow was active I much prefer this shot with water in it.
Burrator Reservoir Dam.
This is a shot from the top of the Dam looking down over the overflow.
Although we were sheltered somewhat there was still wind and rain to contend with but not as bad as if we were up on the high moor, we decided to look around at the old structures one in particular is in the top woods, entry from the end of the Dam.
It is what was used to store the blasting kit when they were building the Dam.
This top wood has some nice trees and rock formations, it could do with some nice side light and mist but sadly I had neither.
We left the woods and set off around the reservoir mainly on the road but I did want to have another look at the Dam end from the old service track, there is a small enclosure at the very end with an old building that I have no idea what its use would have been, it backs on to the water’s edge.
As we walked along the road we saw many weird shaped trees that previously we have not seen, primarily because in the past when we have been walking here it has been for exercise so fast walking no photography, this time however we had plenty of time to look around.
There was also plenty of storm damage from the recent storms.
Norsworthy Bridge is at the halfway point of the loop (almost) so we stopped and found some shelter from the wind and rain while we had lunch, just in sight of the bridge. It would have been better shelter if there had been some leaves on the trees.
After lunch we did the last bit of the loop, it passes a man made waterfall that because of all the rain has turned into a bit of a twin falls.
That’s all for this week folks, here’s really hoping for better weather next week. As always, comments welcome.
