This week I was on my own for a gain, I went out to Holwell Tor from Saddle Tor via Emsworthy Rocks to shoot that lone tree. I took my Fujifilm GFX 50S as well as my X-T2 for those grab shots along the way. The weather was fine but the sky was cloudless and very hazy but as I have said often I work with what I am given.
View from Holwell Tor across to Hound Tor and Greator Rocks.
That Lone Tree on Emsworthy Rocks.
My first stop was the top of Saddle Tor this shot is looking northwest.
From the top you can see across to Haytor Rocks, the blackened area below was from a fire a couple of weeks ago.
Turning to the job in hand I could see Emsworthy Rocks in the distance.
From Emsworthy Rocks I could see Holwell Tor in the foreground then over to Greator Rocks and Hound Tor in the distance.
This is the southern cluster of the rock formation that is Emsworthy Rocks.
On the way I passed this gnarly old Hawthorne.
I had come though for a shot of that tree.
I took it from both sides but I prefer this view.
From this edge of Emsworthy Rocks there is a better view of Hound Tor with Holwell Tor in the foreground
It was only a short walk across to Holwell Tor.
There is a fine outcrop of rocks on Holwell Tor that I thought looked like alien faces from TV.
I had lunch here looking over towards Smallcombe Rocks.
After lunch I headed back towards Haytor Rocks and the disused Quarry to the west of it, I came across the old trackway that was used to move the rocks about between the Quarries.
This led me to the side of the old Quarry.
From here it was a short walk across to Saddle Tor again then back to the car.
That’s all for this week folks, here’s hoping for better light next week. As always, comments welcome.
