Farn Island Lighthouse

By Tracey_McGovern
Hi
This was taken at a recent visit to Farn Islands in Northumberland. I was going to put it through the HDR process but decided against it. The sky looked good enough to leave as it was. So apart from a few tweeks with levels and a touch of saturation this is pretty much as it was on the day.
Thank you for looking and thank you also for all the kind comments on my previous uploads.
Best Wishes
Tracey

A wise choice not to go for HDR, which would have probably nade it OTT. As it is it's a great shot, full of drama and spectacular colour. When we were there it was raining, so our shots don't look as good as this. Lighting is everything.

Lovely colourful lighthouse, but may have been even better if you'd gone for a horizontal shot to include some of the surrounding landscape. Of course this is only my personal opinion and there may be a very good reason why you couldn't or didn't do this - probably because this is exactly the shot you wanted Smile

Hi Sue
I took some in portrait and some in landscape but when I uploaded them on to the computer I liked how the lighthouse filled the frame in the portrait shot so decided to use this one instead. Tracey

Sometimes, with a vertical subject, the portrait format is best but a lot depends on what is around the subject. Well composed

I'm glad you didn't HDR this one. IMHO too many people HDR there work unnecessarily. The red stands out well against the sky and foreground. Good one !
