A Game of Chess

By TrevBatWCC
This sculpture of two Kings of Mann and the Isles who had strong links to Ramsey is located in the Courthouse grounds in Parliament Street. King Godred Crovan, also known as King Orry, and his son, the statesman King Olaf, are depicted in the sculpture, the work of local artist Amanda Barton (you may remember my upload on 2nd May of the sculpture of George Formby by her).
The piece was commissioned by Ramsey Town Commissioners in 2000 to mark the passing into the new millennium and references the change through the images of the old warrior King Orry and the politically astute young King Olaf playing chess. King Olaf appears to be playing classical chess whilst his father, leaning across the board, plays the game as if it were the more aggressive ancient Viking game of Merels, symbolising the move from old ways to new.
Again, not a lot of colour in the scene, so it's back to mono mode again, which works better.
In response to Graham's comments in my previous upload of the ironmonger's shop, no, I didn't go inside and ask for fork handles...or four candles... 😁
Seems to be all change on the EPZ format today....

Raw image processed in Nikon Capture NX-D, mono conversion in Nik Collection's Silver Efex Pro 2, and tweaked Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 😀👍

This makes a superb mono Trev and well observed story of the father & son.
You take in a lot of information on your travels.
How do you remember it all?
