Ancient Anchor

By TrevBatWCC
Taken later on the same day as my previous upload Boats ‘n’ Ropes, this old anchor stands some 7 feet or so high on the short Tate Hill Pier, which juts out into Whitby’s harbour. Whilst it had been fine in Staithes, it came on to rain very heavily whilst on the bus back to Whitby, but by the time I arrived, the rain had stopped, blue skies appeared, and the sun came out Smile, hence the damp patches on the ground. The anchor was apparently caught in the nets of a fishing vessel in 1981 and was presented to the town by its crew. I think it’s had a lick of paint since I saw it last year, as the large stock previously showed quite a bit of bare wood, and the metal bits lots of rust! Wink

An interesting composition, Trev: good choice of f/g interest for the scene and with a wide sweep of the locale in the b/g. And very nicely processed too......I do like this sort of effect you achieve.

Excellent capture and processing Trev.Like the recent rain puddles that all add to the image . Don't recall that I have ever walked on here .It gives an interesting and different view of Whitby. Will have to put that right over the coming months....Phil

The anchor is an interesting waterside feature, and it's good to see that someone is looking after its preservation. Quite a hefty thing to drag into a fishing boat.

the 10 20 was a good choice for this one, brings the anchor in to the fg so beautifully and the buildings add a tremendous bg fading away to infinity, so much to see

Lovely

Like your comp. Looks like a tricky sky, but you've handled it well.

That's what I was going to sayWink A great combo of the 'in your face' anchor and the wide vista of the bg buildings.
Like the tone mapping treatment, Trev. Works very well here.

Nice use of the wide-angle getting close to the anchor Trev. Nicely processed, and I think those wet puddles add to the image.
