Holy Trinity Church, Goodramgate

By TrevBatWCC
This lovely old church stands in a small, secluded churchyard, tucked away behind Goodramgate, and can easily be missed on your travels around York's centre. To visit, you pass through a narrow 18th century archway tacked on to buildings that served as artisans' workshops in the 14th century. It dates chiefly from the 15th century, but has features from its foundation in the 12th century right up to the 19th century. Its box pews being unique in York, are exceptionally fine.
Its floors are quite uneven and the whole building's rather wonky, and trying to get everything straight and level is impossible, especially in the lead image ¬– straightening the stained glass window, everything else leans to the right, so settled on getting the horizontals horizontal, and leaving the window to lean to the left!
The last version is the outside of the church, taken from on the path leading from the arched entrance through the churchyard.

Many thanks to Sylvia (Sylviwhalley) and Rob (RLF) for their User Awards on my previous upload The Caricaturist , most appreciated 🏆👍

Raw images processed in Adobe Camera Raw, tweaked in Nik Collection's Viveza 2 and Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your votes & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 👍

I've passed this so many times over the last forty years and never been inside. Oh the shame of it! Blush Something to be rectified on our next visit. A superb set of images. SmileSmileSmile

I have visited this, it's a little gem. As far as I remember it has no electricity?

A fine old building and one can see the wonkiness within: so if your verticals turn not to be so, then it matters not.
What character it has.
And your version showing the stained glass in all it's glory is perfectly captured.

You may well be right, Moira, Iím not sure, but it was lit only by candles when I was there.

What a beautiful old church, Trev - full of character ............. and photo opportunities!!Smile
A wonderful set of images and, as you have indicated, I appreciate the difficulties trying to 'straighten things up'!!
I particularly like the stained glass image which is a favourite subject of mine.
