The Grocer's Shop

By TrevBatWCC
On Monday at our Camera Club meeting via Zoom conferencing one of our members gave us a presentation. Much of the work she produces is done using textures on images. Using screen sharing, she explained her technique, from creating your own textures from things around us, applying them, and the use of Blending Modes in Photoshop. It was very interesting, so feeling inspired, had a go! It doesnít work on every subject but this, the Grocerís shop taken the Blists Hill Victorian Museum on a trip there back in May 2015, seemed to work well and thought it worth an upload.
The version is the 'untampered' original to compare.

Many thanks to Graham (Ericsamson), Geoff (simmo73), Chris (SlowSong) and Lynne (Drighlynne) for their User Awards on my previous upload, 'Van Gogh's bedroom in Arles' re-framed , most appreciated 🏆👍

Raw image processed in Adobe Camera Raw, tweaked in Nik Collectionís Viveza 2 and Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 😀👍

Trev 😀

I'm loving this Trev, your treatment of this image is perfect for the subject matter and in my humble opinion works a treat!

You started with an excellent image and the technique you used made it even more attractive. Hope to see more of these from you.

I do like a nice texture, and this one suits the subject well. I really should get to know blending modes a bit better; I only ever use one or two.

That really does enhance the 'old' atmosphere of the subject!

Works perfectly Trev. Fabulous old shop
I'm joined up for a what sounds like a very similar talk this evening. Really looking forward to it. If I can produce images half as good as this afterwards I'll be over the moon.

a beautiful job (and absolutely unaccomplishable in my case as i even don't have Photoshop) for the lead image but finally v.1 just edges ahead for me

An excellent initial capture in the version, Trev.
I really like the treatment you have given it in the lead image - your camera club inspiration has worked very well indeed.
Good to see the 'A.F. Blakemore Blended Tea' sign/bag under the black pudding - the company is still based in the Black Country and is, apparently, the largest SPAR distribution centre in the UK! My late father-in-law worked as a rep for them ............. he did well but hated every minute - couldn't stand the paperwork!!Smile
Must get back to Blists Hill again.

I have to admit to not being a fan of this type of layer work. OK, giving a plain background a complementary texture layer is one thing, but not this 'cover everything' style. We have different tastes, thankfully, otherwise there would be no diversity.
The original, 'untampered with' version looks fine to me, Trev.Smile

Not something I have tried. The effect on this image is very subtle and does enhance it.

I'm with Malc and am pleased to see that I'm not alone in preferring your original, as shown in the version. I like textures, but not when they cover the whole of the picture. I like detail, and when it is there in the original, it seems a shame to ruin it. Just me !
So my vote is for your original.

I prefer the original too, though I don't dislike the lead image.
While Blending Modes and Opacity adjustments are possible in software, thus infinitely increasing creative possibilities, adding textures using texture screens when enlarging negatives are an age old idea though I don't know how popular they were.

Lovely set Trev, great composition and detail, my slight preference goes to the version.

You have been a good pupil Trev - you're chosen texture works perfectly with this image.
No doubt we will see more textured treats in the future!

For first time trying this is excellent! I know virtually nothing about layers and textures in PS. I keep saying Iíll watch some tutorials and then experiment... one day Smile
