The Sloop Inn, St Ives

By TrevBatWCC
An image from when on holiday in my favourite British resort of St Ives, in Cornwall, back in March 2016. Having just had lunch in my favourite watering-hole there, The Sloop Inn, which faces out onto the harbour, took this shot with the fisheye lens looking back towards it. It dates back to around 1312, so is just a bit older than me 😁
Had another fiddle around with the image, reprocessing it in both colour and mono.
(image taken 30/03/2016)

Many thanks to Angela (adagio) and Val (Val Prowse) for their User Awards on my previous upload, I Spy! , most appreciated 🏆👍

Raw images processed in Adobe Camera Raw, mono conversion in Nik Collection's Silver Efex Pro 2, both tweaked in Photoshop Elements 2020.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 😃👍

Think I prefer the splashes of colour.
Happy days with crowds of folk and no masks
and holidays to plan - we could never have foreseen
our present circumstances.

Can't split these images but maybe a slight preference for the colour version. Never been a fan of fisheye lens images but the subject here suits it and the distortion brings your eyes back to the main part of the picture. Nice one Trev

I have never been to Cornwall but love seeing images from there.
A lovely shot of the area and doesn't the fish eye lens capture so much?
The effect of the distortion somehow is very pleasing here.

find myself torn between the two versions, both appear excellent to me
to tell the truth i was expecting to see the distortion free image in v.1 (such as when you use your famous correction filter) but then perhaps some of the image would be left outside the frame

For me it is the mono. I was in St Ives last year. It is such a wonderful place especially this time of year. No tourists !

I do like both very much Trev. Fun to see what a fisheye does.

Great rose this, Trev. St Ives a good place, yes, seeing Donovan in the 60s, goodness that dates me 😀 liked his song ‘Sailing Homewards’, from that era, it’s still on YouTube.
Great processing here, like both versions in their own ways.

Never made it down to Cornwall before i moved abroad - not sure why, but obvious I have missed out on some lovely places. Any eventual visit would need to be out of the tourist season - tourists are a bl**dy nuisance!Wink

Fabulous mono conversion in the lead image, looks great with the fish eye lens. I have a photograph of Mike sat there from a few years back.

Interesting, the mono places emphasis on the scene, the colour version places more emphasis on the people. Both good photos though.

Never thought about a Fish-eye lens in the 📷 bag, but this certainly shows its worthiness, a really appealing image from more normal times, it must be the Mono for me Trev......👍
