Zermatt & The Matterhorn

By TrevBatWCC
The outing into Switzerland took us as far as the small town of Täsch, around 5 km north of Zermatt. This is as far as traffic is allowed when going to Zermatt as, apart from local taxis, horses & carriages and bicycles, Zermatt is car-free. We alighted the coach alongside the railway station, and after being given our train tickets, took the shuttle train to Zermatt, a journey of around 15 minutes.
The highest ski resort in Switzerland, Zermatt is overlooked by the Matterhorn, whose summit is 4,478 metres / 14,692 feet high above sea level, and before we left the coach, our driver told us the best place to view it. So, on arrival, headed from the railway station down Getwingstrasse, the road shown in the lead image, to where those people are gathered. Looking to the right, you're faced with the view of the Matterhorn, as shown in all the versions. Despite it being a very warm and sunny day, there was a lot of cloud about, which just wouldn't shift to show us the Matterhorn's pointed summit - this was about as best it got! 😬

Many thanks to Sylvia (Sylviwhalley) and Dave (HobbitDave) for their User Awards on my previous upload, Simplon Pass, Switzerland , most appreciated 🏆👍

Raw images processed in Adobe Camera Raw, tweaked in Nik Collection's Viveza 2 and Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 👍

This is a gorgeous spot and you have done it justice, Trev: just a pity the clouds prevented a view of the Matterhorn summit, but I guess that at the time of year you were there, the conditions you had to deal with are probably the norm. Despite that you managed to capture a fine set, showing off the beauty of the town to full advantage.

What Ronnie said. The mountain is still a powerful sight, despite being partially clothed in cloud. In a way, it adds to its mystery.
