Dunster

By TrevBatWCC
On my holiday to Lynton in Devon back in February 2009, we had a coach outing over the border in Somerset, first visiting Minehead, then onto the lovely medieval village of Dunster, some 4 km south-east of Minehead.
The village grew up around its castle built around 1,000 years ago, and became a centre for wool and cloth production and trade, of which the octagonal Yarn Market (the lead and V1), built in the 1600s, is a relic, standing near the top end of High Street. Heading onto Castle Hill (V2) leads you onto West Street (V3 & V4), with V5 & V6 being taken back on the High Street.
Though in a different county, Dunster was strongly featured in the 1990 Hercule Poirot TV episode 'The Cornish Mystery'.
Due to the length of time we had in the village, didn't get time to visit the interior of the castle. The only thing that spoils it there are the number of cars parked along the High Street, which can be seen in the lead image, but it's still a must place to visit if you're in that area.
Wasn't the sunniest of weather that day, but it did stay fine!

Nice set Trev, and suitable processing.
Visited Dunster (including the castle) years ago and have photos somewhere in my slide & negative archives - one day I shall dig them out!

Beautiful village Trev, an old stomping ground as used to live 4m from here. Your processing adds to these fine images. One of the best-kept medieval villages in Britain. And one of the best Westcountry wildlife artists exhibitions here, Maurice Bishop 👍👌

I have a certain fondness for this location, not sure my wife feels the same though, after deciding to do her impersonation of Wonder Woman in the unisex loo within the Castle, luckily, just badly shaken up, and she can laugh about it now.......😭 Look out for those steps I hear you cry....and reactive lenses....😮

Pleasing reminders of this well worth a visit location, accompanied by worthy narrative, nice one Trev.👍👍

lovely images and as you say it is a stunning village been there a few times. Also your shots with the D40 a 6mega pixal camera prove that millions of pixals are not the be all and end all of photography

A superb collection, Trev - very well taken and processed images.
We visited Dunster Castle en route to Lynton but did not venture into the village .... unfortunately!
