St David's Cathedral

By TrevBatWCC
For the next full day out from Tenby, the coach took us for a morning visit to St Davids, the most westerly point of Wales, before touring around Pembrokeshire with a few stop-offs on our return. Though still a bit wild & windy, it was quite sunny 😎
St David founded a 6th century monastery here; the building of the present cathedral was begun in 1180 and has been extended and altered over the centuries. One aspect of the Cathedral, which strikes you as you approach, is that it's in a dip, hidden from view almost until you come upon it at the foot of a valley. Churches tend to be more prominent in the landscape than this, but being so close to the sea, and so handily positioned for Viking raiders to descend upon, made this a sensible position. The medieval settlement that grew up around the Cathedral would have blown its cover somewhat, but by then the Vikings were no longer marauding through the Irish Sea.
These images were taken heading down the hill to the Cathedral, the daffodils in V3 catching my eye on the way down!
Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes, had a good evening out on Friday, enjoying a very tasty carvery! 🍴😋

Many thanks to Ian (dales) and Graham (Ericsamson) for their User Awards on my previous upload Tenby Harbour - a wider view , most appreciated 🏆👍

Raw images processed in Adobe Camera Raw, tweaked in Nik Collection's Viveza 2 and Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your votes & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 👍

I do think that particular local stone lends itself perfectly to use in architecture. Fine images of a very fine building, Trev.
