Barry Sheene 1978

By VicBarnes
Client Heron Suzuki. A stock shot of Baz when he was World Champ in the days before knee sliders. Without photography, how would we illustrate history? Part of my work as a pro but a very personal picture.

Hi Brownstonechip. Yes the shot was taken at the exit to Druids at Brands Hatch. Thanks for the feedback everyone. At that time I was a close friend of Baz -- he lived in Guildford Street (Russell Square) and I had helped him a lot with his promotion. When he got the Suzuki contract in the early '70s we created and published that famous poster of Baz in his white leathers. Remember those leather? They were a deliberate kick against everyone's black leathers. Ah, memories...
By the way, he had Donald Duck painted on his helmet because he thought the fans would believe that anyone who carried such an image would never win anything.

Barry Sheene and I sarted racing bikes at about the same time.
He went on to become a world champion and I went on to become a printer!
