A lovely capture and well exposed and detailed on a good perch. Might have lessened the dof though to block out more of the bg plus what a shame the ears aren't raised

I think it's a great picture. My impression is that you could fill the frame a bit more with a closer crop because this picture is all about the bird - you don't need so much background - although I think you're correct to show more backround on the left of the picture (to 'follow' the bird's gaze). While you're cropping have a close look at whether the bird is upright, I think it is leaning to the right as we view it. So, I ould trim away the top and right and straighten it at the same time. I also think it would benefit from more contrast.

Excellent shot Vince.

A couple of suggestion Ive incorporated into a mod.

Use canvas size to place the birds eye on a third, and provide more space to lok into on the left; using a 1 pix soft brush, add/enhance the eye catch lights; sharpen a little; add some more background blur; Ive also done a threshold/curves adjustment which has resulted in better contrast, and a very slightly different colour tone. Also, - changed the frame to be a little less heavy.

All this brings attention to the great bird shot.

Hope you find this helpful

Hi Vince
I see what you meant about 'comments' being valuable. It's a good idea because there are some good pointers suggesting how to improve your image. I have picked up on the comments made and intend to give them a try. I like the sharpness, especially the eyes.

Thanks Richard and Wideangler for taking the time to view and comment. Thanks also to Willie for your comments and mod. Whilst my knowledge of photoshop will allow me to implement some of your suggestions with practice, I need to have a closer look at others and learn how to do them. I found all your comments to be constructive and helpful.

A nice portrait Vince with great detail. I would just boost the contrast a little using levels adjustment.

A beautiful well detailed capture, Vince. IMHO the composition needs adjusting, a tighter crop but leaving the greater space to the left, similar to the mod but with less space above his head. I also think the contrast needs upping. I see from prevoius comments these points have been already made. I hope all these have been helpful.
