Did you mean 'superb starling'? I don't think this is one though. They have an orange belly. But some kind of starling and a lovely shot too!

Is it a violet backed starling? - very good shot anyway. Ann

I will have to verify its name when I go back, if it is on the board.

Nice sharp shot, not much to critique here, the only thing I can see is the tag, which could be taken out and possibly cropping the top of the shot a little.

This is a superb exposure of a fine bird and a great eye. IMHO there is nothing wrong with a tag showing, 90% of Red Kites have wing tags and they stay on.
Great capture

I don't think there's any such thing as a `Splendid starling'. Looking at Wikipedia, it might be an Abbott's starling or a Violet-backed starling.

Anyway, you were looking for a critique of the photograph rather than your bird identification skills. Smile Not much to say, to be honest — it's a good shot. It's well exposed and nicely sharp. A little more detail in the white feathers would be nice but there is definition there so this isn't a criticism.

I like the way you've given the bird plenty of space to look into but I do think a slightly tighter crop would be better. There's quite a lot of empty space around the bird, especially above it. Even if you don't want to crop substantially, it would be worth cropping or cloning out the bright spot on the left-hand edge and it looks like you didn't finish some cloning or canvas extension in the bottom-right.
