Remains of the Day

By VintageRed
Just returned from the annual pilgramage to Saltwick Bay so I hope you're feeling up to seeing several images of this fabulous place over the course of the next few days.

First up is my version of a popular view and I hope I have done it credit. I understand these are the remains of the Admiral von Tromp. In fairness I know little of the history of the wreck and I'm happy if anyone wants to fill in the details as it were. What I do know is that in its current state it is very photogenic.

Hope you enjoy and thankyou for viewing and any comments and clicks you might care to bestow.

How spooky! - last image I uploaded was of this wreck (I think) in 1979. Keith H commented on it & he knows some of the history.

Like the pano crop, great image.

good version of it

Admiral von tromp was a light trawler out of Bridlington

1976 - down in heavy seas and thick fog which resulted in the loss of two lives and a bravery award for the skipper of the Whitby Lifeboat.

Thank you all.

Thanks for that Keith. I was interested to see Stevem's image from 1979 giving an almost before and after copmparison. It shows the power of the sea but in some ways I'm surprised that there still are some remains. Maybe take another 20 years before they are all gone.

The proprotions of sky to sea and subject, are just right. As is the light and hues. Excellent remnant boat, as a central subject. You've created a fine atmosphere with this work!

Wow, fabulous response - thank you all.

Thanks NIkki - possibly two toffee ones ta.

Cheers Alley - maybe a cheeky little Medoc peut etre. (That would have been better of course if I knew where to find all the little accents!)

As promised, visiting previous pic!

Actually I think I prefer your latest pic, simply because of what I wrote in the comments. This is beautifully done and composed, but for me the other is far more dramatic and has more narrative to keep the viewer interested.

Looks like an incredible place though.

Great composition and beautiful light. You've done a cracking job here Nick.

Interestingly, there was one survivor from the wreck and he was found by the lifeboat clinging to Black Nab itself. Saltwick is a beautiful place, but it's got more than its fair share of ghosts.
