Solitude

By VintageRed
Thanks you all for your support of my last two uploads - I was delighted with the response. This image is from the same visit and is all about the slate/shale

I'm not a geologist and I'm never quite sure whether these are two words for the same thing or if not how to tell them apart. Tell you what, let's call it slate for the sake of the intro.

I'd seen what happens in this location as the sun sets on my previous visit. That surface can be treachorous at times and staying on your feet can be a bit of a lottery but it doesn't half conduct the light well. As the sun sinks, it's rays shoot the length of the bay and that is what I've tried to capture.

On a more prosaic note, the title works for me on a couple of levels. A key ingredent of this image is the sun i.e. Sol and because this bay isn't really on the beaten track, it doesn't seem to be a place overwhelmed with people.

Hope you enjoy and have a good weekend.

Nick

A beautiful deserted scene. The golden colours in the slate, the lead-in through the slate, the scattered rocks and the headland combine to give a wonderful image.

Well Nick this deserves the RC - great depth of field and you have held the detail well through all the tone range - gid you use filters or HDR?

Wonderful sunset Nick, like the rays of light across the slate/shale, looks like a great place to be at that time of day.

Excellent again Nick. I like how you've used the cracks in the scar as your foreground interest, rather than one of the rocks dotted around. And the light is superb. Top work.
