Green Tiger beetle (Cicindela campestris) ovipositing

By Vpics
A female Green Tiger Beetle excavating a hole in preperation for ovipositing. The back of her abdomen is a great digging tool and the small clods of drying soil behind her have been lifted out by it.

I just finished processing and uploading a short video of this beetle and if you're interested it can be viewed here: http://youtu.be/3Fv6UekfSEI
I had to shorten it unfortunately because it was a bit too large a file to upload, it starts about 2/3rds of the way through the process of making the hole for her eggs.

Lovely shot which deserves more attention, you only get that these days with stacked images! A single frame is not enough for some anymore.
