Climber

By WeeGeordieLass
Spotted this guy half way up a rock face in North Yorkshire yesterday.

I've dithered about with various crops and have decided this is the best one.

I've uploaded the other options as versions.

I increased the ISO to 800 as I was using my long Telephoto lens handheld and needed to avoid camera shake. Following advice given previously I set the camera to shutter priority and chose 1/500. I'm pleased with the quality as I've cropped quite a bit but it still looks quite good to me - but what do you guys think?

Please would you let me know if there's anything I could have done to improve this shot - both at the time of shooting and the processing afterwards.

Version 2 for me which gives the perspective of size - man Vs mountains.

Why didn't you get him to wave ..... Tongue

V2. for me too for the same reason.

If that had been me up there, I'd have waved. I might even have taken a photograph of you.

Hi Bren,

Thanks for letting me know your preference.

If you let me know the next time you're hanging off a cliff face, I'll come along to watch and you can take a picture of me for your 365 project lolGrin

Namaste, Elaine.
I looked at this for some time yesterday and have to say I find it an impressive image. I love the texture of the rock face, and the climber couldn't be wearing a better colour for impact. The expression on his face and the action you captured are excellent.
For me, V3 works best. I feel he is too close to the bottom frame edge in V1. V2 is good for the perspective and feeling of height, but I tend not to connect so easily with the man in that one, probably because his expression isn't so easy to see. In all three you have considered your composition so that the man is not central.

You're closer to the truth than you realise!

I took this shot forty feet in the air, hanging from a mountaineers' ropes and harness.

If you'd been there . . . !
Hi Pamela,

I'm grateful for your opinion. I took shots of other climbers but the red t-shirt on this guy stood out. I chose this one to upload because I liked the shape of the climber's body, the concentration and determination showing on his face and the strength that I perceive in his arms.

Take Care

Elaine
Wow Bren..............I'm impressed!!

Wish I'd been there to take a photo of you.

Cheers

Elaine
