Eilean Donan Castle

By WeeGeordieLass
Eilean Donan Castle dates back to the 13th Century and stands amid beautiful scenery at the place where three sea lochs meet at Dornie.

I wanted to photograph the castle at twilight, after the sun had set and there was still some light to see the bridge and the foreground in the final image.

I'd read that the lights come on automatically at dusk and had got into position with my camera set up on my tripod waiting patiently for the optimum time to trip the shutter.

It was a wonderful calm and peaceful evening and I was so relaxed when all of a sudden my face felt like it was on fire. It felt like a bad case of prickly heat or tiny little pins being stuck repeatedly into my skin.

This was my first encounter with that "fearsome wee beastie", the Scottish Midgie. I'd bought a midgie head net for our trip and couldn't get it on quick enough!!

I got the shot and beat a hasty retreat back to our motorhome.

I hope you agree that twilight is a fantastic time to photograph this castle, in spite of those darned midgies.

Thanks
ElaineGrin

Wonderful Capture of this Castle. The Red Sky and the reflections are excellent with the super colours. Well worth getting bitten by the dreaded wee midges Elaine.

Think I'm the only photographer never to have seen this 'in the flesh' so to speak, or photographed it! Can't say I've ever seen evening images like this of it though, but it was well worth getting bitten for, it's super! Wink Wonderful colours, and reflections too Smile
