This was taken at the Kumbh Mela, a mass Hindu pilgrimage in Allahabad. On the day we were there, estimates were that 10 million people had attended. I'd never seen so many people in one place in my life. Over the 57 days of the celebration the estimates are that 65-70 million people will attend!
There was a fantastic atmosphere, and even though there were masses of people everyone was calm, relaxed, happy and friendly. There were some fantastic characters there - all happy and willing to be photographed.
We seemed to be the only westerners there and we were allowed into the huge tent, by the Mela Police, where the Sadhus and Holy Men received their meals.
Again, I just took my chance and snapped away, there were rows and rows of Holy Men all dressed in bright orange and yellow, and I didn't see the yawning sadhu until I reviewed my shots later in the day.
I've reduced the saturation and have uploaded another version. I'd be grateful if you'd let me know your opinions on which version you think is better. I like the brighter version but it may be too bright for some people.
Hope you like the shot.
