Alex is now 9 months. Am still trying to achieve a sublime Portrait of him. But I guess am still a little off. But am sure the introduction of a 50mm equivalent on my V1 will help me on that front.
There's potential in this but I think you need to be more in control of lighting to get a better portrait.
Now, let me state from the outset that I have no portraits in my portfolio at all, but from what I remember, this would have looked better with diffused lighting, and taken with a much more plain background behind the baby.
Also, do you have off-camera flash guns? If so, use them to send diffuse-lighting on the baby's face as it will make the skin look softer, and the shadows wouldn't be as harsh as they are here. Of course, you need a soft-box in front of the flash, or a DIY diffuser so that the light source would be larger in comparison to the subject (hence getting nicer shadows).
Nice to hear from you once again. Thank you for dropping by.
Yea regarding this pic, what I did fail to mention though is that I absolutely had no control on either light nor location.. that's what you get when you don't plan ahead I guess.
But having said that I also try and keep Alex at ease as possible. The natural look is what I crave. Light and settings for the time being come second.
In reply to whether am in a club or not, I have to sadly add 'no' for the time being.
My love towards photography was ignited a while back but have absolutely no formal tuition as yet.
I currently own a NIKON V1, and planning to get myself 55mm equivalent on 2.7 crop factor.
If you love photography, I can recommend the course I took myself - it's really useful.
As regards control over lighting, in the above image I'm not sure if you could have maybe closed the curtain a bit, particularly if it was made of light fabric that was translucent enough to let in some diffuse light, you'd get a better result, though you'd need a higher ISO, wider aperture or slower shutter speed (all whilst keeping in mind their negative repurcussions) to get the same exposure (without using flash).
What a beautiful boy - those eyes !! A hunk like his dad
