encyclopedia of cold.. as many elements to depict cold as one would like.. inclusion of fallen tree is something not seen so far.. the tone makes it raw and stark... the standing tree and the fallen tree truly captures the reality of of every life.. and that time is the true champion, not we.. achieved something more and deeper than the landscape and cold.. congratulations.

Peekay has told the story so elegantly I shall defer to her-- Nice work, both of you!

As described Alan. Great photography.

The triangles are here again, a trademark of yours I think Alan. A place you'd want to go to after seeing this shot. Beautiful.

Don't you think that trees speak more eloquently in their midwinter state than when in full leaf?
Really lovely composition.

It's the dark undersides of the branches that give the depth.
I'm almost missing the snow this winter. Almost...

i have come back to it again.. earlier i missed something.. and that is the pathway.. inclusion of the pathway makes it even more interesting.. it makes it more philosophical and related to human life..
see everything, suffer the losses, but keep on moving.. life is an eternal journey, be a traveler, dont be tethered..

Great composition and I too spotted the triangles!
Peekay has explored all the symbolism in great depth.
I'll leave it to others to tread the virgin path.

Hi Alan, this is just excellent from the white of the snow to the deep darks of the tree bark and the pool. The path going up the side leads you up into the image and its so refreshing to see someone correcting things for white snow and not just leaving it grey.

Like Moira says I'm almost missing the snow this year as I really like to take these type of images, they work so well in B&W.

Winter can be so beautiful in it's barrenness. Wonderfully composed, and obviously poetic.

Beautiful Alan. The stark contrast between tree branches and snow is really effective. Nice composition as well.

subconscious mind does it for us.. who we are and how we think is often reflected through our images.. Smile
an image has a whole of a life behind it.. so i disagree that you have merely shot trees.. Smile
bring 10 people to the same place and everyone would shoot it differently..
and besides, if you ask a person to think about this image, he will come to the same things as i wrote..
so, it is a great image..

A good dynamic diagonal and strong graphic detail brought out by the snow.

Cogito ergo sum...

Trouble is, too much cogito can sometimes get in the way of the sum
It is what it says on the tin (or in the title in this case). But it is also very lovely!
