This is the first in a series from Newcastle and Gateshead, and was taken on an upper floor of The Sage concert hall, one very rainy morning.

A voyeur's view of the man at the desk (smoking?) and a very light contrasting view from that
wonderful window on the world.
I love your use of curves here Alan and can't help thinking how inspiring it would be to be sitting where the man is in this image.

It's a mini-cafeteria, Kate. He's having breakfast. ( Hence the title? Grin )

A great view indeed, and such a very well observed and composed candid. An image within an image.

People-watching, Alan? A great place for the purpose, too, and here you make excellent use of the architecture and the lighting.

Licking his fingers, most probably. The Sage has an excellent caf and make cheese scones big enough for three people!

Been there, done that, it's fun isn't it... (Try out the reflection in the huge mirror behind the counter, too...).

I'm not wild on selective colour (and I'm too old to appreciate this new-fangled term popping...), unless it says something significant rather than just 'Look how clever I am.' But this works. The interior is so cool, clean, polished. And then the colourful jumble of buildings rising higgledy-piggledy above the Tyne. Two worlds separated by that curving window.

Thinking about it, he's in a hermetically sealed bubble isolated from the rest of Gateshead, too. Which is quite a good place to be...

The scones are ridiculous. When we took our U3A photography group there, Fiona took half of hers home in a doggy bag.

Given that Gateshead kick-started the regeneration of the quaysides, it has always seemed sad to me that on their side it never got beyond the quayside. Unless you count the huge Bingo palace and demolishing the Get Carter car park as progress.

That looks as if it should slowly revolve, a la Post Office tower in London.
As others have said, he is separated from the rest of the world, feeling safe enough to eat without the fear of having hordes of rampaging Geordies invading his space.Wink

just didn't come in the radar in the thumbnails.. found it from your portfolio..
the quality which i would like to highlight: 'you are frugal' to say the least.. again no space wasted.. again too much in an image, combining together to make it very harmonious.. a candid may suggest it was shot in a hurry.. but no light work.. aesthetic sense, composition oozing out..

Very silly Jade, how could he lick the final morsels of his fingers GrinGrin

Just liking the 2 halves of this image the toned monochrome interior with the coloured outside world. Excellent Alan
