Crimdon beach

By whatriveristhis
Thanks to all who voted or commented on John, Paul, and George, the Rockin' Redshanks, and to Mark who gave his award.
This is from the same morning.
The structure in the middle distance isn't a pier... this was a major coal mining area, and it's actually the remains of a pipeline presumably leading out from underground workings. I've no idea as to its purpose, the reason for it being elevated ( there are two other structures nearby at ground level that open directly onto the beach and were obviously there to mitigate the risk of flooding ) or the purpose of the mysterious structure at the far end.
If anyone should happen to know...

Atmospheric with lots to focus on Alan - I like the hints of light in the f/g grasses.

It's vast! The tiny people are dwarfed.

Essence of place. This is the North's idea of a beach, it's the sort of beach that I'm comfortable with. I recently hunted out our copy of Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen's Coal Coast, an acquaintance of ours who is a geologist wrote the introduction.

Watched a movie many years ago and the structure was used to dump coal rubbish into the sea, in the movie if I recall properly a body was so disposed of too.

And they left an opening for something. Strange but interesting. Lovely misty light.

Was it a pipeline, Alan, or was it a conveyor belt for getting coal out to small coasters that carried coal over relatively shorter distances? I know this was a method used to overcome the problems of the coasters not being to get closer to the shore because of the shallow water.

I can feel the sand whipping round my legs. I am duly worried about my cameras.

It takes me there.

Could be, Malc, or possibly what Dougie suggested. I've never been able to get very close because of water channels across the beach.
