On the wing

By AnnChown
I've been practising in-flight gulls with some wing movement - it's incredibly difficult. I think the face is sharper in v2 but I like the composition in v1 better. Here are two of the best - comments and criticisms are very welcome.
I was 'well pleased' with your response to End of the Rainbow - thank you all so much for your votes and comments, and particular thanks to Jeremy for the GEA, and to Alun, Robert, Mike, Lynne, Ken, Derek, Ronnie, Kate and Kate for their UAs! SmileSmile I'll have to trawl through my hard drive more often.

Great photography, the 1/50 second Shutter Speed allowing you to capture the motion of wings whilst at the same time fast enough to keep the feathered fuselage wonderful crisp and sharp.

Beautiful up large. I have to favour v2 as on my screen it looks more in focus. But the head on shot is great too.

Superb work, Ann. Ambitious and challenging, and you've pulled it off. Both are excellent, and the fact that the face is marginally sharper in V2 is of no importance to me, I enjoy a visual image because it moves me, not because it's technically superior. That seems to me the whole point of why people make images, or any Art, in the first place. So I personally prefer V1, though V2 is close behind.
Outstanding, and gets my Award.

Fantastic focus right where it counts!

Excellent shots. I like the sharp focus on the body and head and the movement in the wings. Flight shots are hard - I end up with loads of blurry messes!!!

In fact, the compo of V2 is better, but V1 is more appealing to me for some reason which I cannot tell. A remarkable achievement, Ann.
Marvellous action here Ann, they are very good pilots of the sky and soar and dive with seeming effortlessness.

Goodness me - I've never tried to achieve what you have done here Ann.
If I can capture a bird, get it sharp with correct colour, I'm very happy never mind trying to sharp
face/head and wing movement!
Very well done.

You have set yourself a difficult task, and you've succeeded quite well I'd say.
I think the offset composition of v2 is my preference, but they are both so well done.

Very well done in both, Ann Smile I think I prefer V2 for the angle of the bird. It's like he's coming in for a landing Smile

Andrew

PS I think you have a couple of dust bunnies.

Thanks Andrew - your screen has proved in the past to be better calibrated than mine - I'm glad to know this as I know my sensor needs yet another clean.... Sad
