The Baldersdale Mafia

By whatriveristhis
A quick grab shot for Silly Sunday.
The most sinister gang of sheep I've ever come across while walking in the Dales. They did move out of the way, albeit reluctantly, but then shadowed me along the farm road for some distance - a mildly unsettling and eerie experience.
I can only assume that my name must have got around...

I was quite knocked out by the hugely encouraging response to my poetic daisy, so thank you to everyone who contributed. Messages of thanks have been sent to all those who generously gave their awards.

Miss Hauxwell's domain, I assume... Well, she would have strong-minded sheep.
We had a similar experience on a walk a few weeks ago, approaching a little bridge at the bottom of a valley, only one path available and the sheep were determined to defend it. I went back a week later with the camera but they had gone, and we have not had a similar experience there since.
Sheep just need one dominant leader, whether for stupidity, athleticism or aggressive intent.

They are the guardians of hallowed ground, and take their responsibilities extremely seriously indeed. Outsiders, especially those with a known track-record, like yourself, will be watched attentively. I can compare it to the aboriginals guarding sacred ground, like Uluru.

Thanks Malc, you've opened my eyes. Why you still don't have your own TV show is beyond me.

A friend who is a retired farm economist told me that pigs are intelligent but sheep are just plain stupid. I think not.

Phil.

No, they most certainly are not stupid.

adds insult to injury having to see Lineker et al prattling on last night after the FA cup when they should have stopped at 7.55 for the next program. It's not as though the game itself was still going on. A case for room 101 if ever there was.

Love the little head peeking between the boards. There's always one nosy character in a crowd isn't there. Thank goodness! Great image Alan.

I think something really strange must be happening to me. One day I'm photographing a field of cattle, the next I'm deciding to allocate a gong to a picture of an ovine lynch-mob. I'll admit to growing older - pointless, really, much as I would love to turn the clock back - but it's OK just so long as it's not my 'dotage' . . .

Superb photo, by the way.

Bill
