The Square Mile...

By WhiteRose1
Apologies for being awol over the weekend.... I went on an Open Cities photo tour of The City of London on
Saturday and an Open Garden event in Essendon village in Hertfordshire on Sunday.

The architecture was interesting but I don't think I'm going to rush out and get a tilt & shift lens!

1. the colonnades opposite the North West corner of St Pauls Cathedral - Iso400, f16, 1/400s
2. No.1 Poultry (yes, that is a genuine address) - Iso400, f10, 1/60s
3. 88 Wood Street (with shades of the Pompidou Centre) - Iso400, f9, 1/125s

No tripod this time, but I may be re-visiting some of these sites in low night in the future Tongue.

The title, of course, refers to the size of the City of London itself.

Dave

A wonderful trip not only in location but through the spectrum, from the sepia of v1 to the wonderfully bright and cheerful colours in v3. V2 is simply amazing Dave, a meeting if sandstone tones and those bright window frames. It's compositionally out of this world too.

V1 for me, Dave, by a long chalk, for the dispassionate composition and the surveillance personnel: placement of that eye implies both secrecy and awareness.
Nowt wrong with V2 or V3, it's just that V1 reigns Smile

Totally agree with Bill. V1 is perfection. The play of light and shadow, an eerie beauty. Makes me think, somehow, of Paul Strand's New York. No doubt you'll get about 100 UA's, so I'm getting mine in quickly.

I'm loving these semi-abstract urban images which are very well observed. The sculpture in v1 really makes it but I love the angles and tension created by the inverted triangle in V2 while V3 is a lot of fun with all the vertical coloured lines. A versatile and great selection, I could learn a lot for my next trip to Newcastle! Smile

Like the colour in V3.

Must have bought the same sat nav system that the guy was selling in the pub here on Saturday.
I was doubtful of its merits when the directions were said in Chinese !!

I'm not well qualified in judging architectural images, so I'll learn from other's judgement here.
I do like the symmetry in V2 and my first thought on opening V3 was a bookshelf!
I can learn from V1 on angles and points of view. Interesting go see your change of F stop in all three images.
Very controlled and thoughtful photography.

as a photo I like the daguerreotype in V1 best.
v3 seems to be the periscope of the blue submarine, an advanced version of the Beatles' and v2 .. did you take a buiding from out side and then placed it into the SpinDryer filter? or a kaleidoscope?
any which way, highly intriguing.

Fantastic work, Dave, three well seen images all unique and totally different, v1 for me, excellent composition and use of light, extremely well handled exposure, detail and focus as usual bang on the button, what makes v1 for me is the lighting, composition and the placement of the head on the right hand side looking into the image.
