Night and Day

By WhiteRose1
Night and day you are the one
Only you beneath the moon or under the sun
Whether near to me or far, it's no matter where you are
I think of you
Day and night, night and day
........................... Cole Porter

I tried to take the night version on the same day, but someone hadn't paid the bill because the lights never came on! TWO trips south of the river!!

Daylight - Iso 200, f16, 1/160sec, @15mm. Tripod and remote

Night - Iso 100, f16, 0.8secs, @14mm. Tripod and remote (and 5 layers of clothing, hat, gloves, and scarf!!!)

V1 for me Dave. thought you said you were a fine weather photographer! It must have been cold with all those layers necessary. glad you braved it anyway. They are both fine images

Fascinating how in daylight you can't see the compositional lines as clearly nor the form of the bridges yet by night there's so much more interest and drama. Strong curving lead in and then a selection of straight lines and angles to lead you back across the frame. There's still some nice colour left in the sky for an added bonus! Smile

Super images Dave. Very hard to choose - love the night shot with the strong sweeping lit arch but equally the day shot has a great reflection. Smile

Great composition in these fine images! the light and composition in V1 just edges it for me!!
9 Apr 2013 8:58AM
Good images but I like v2. I think the reflections make it more interesting. Plus it has a certain clean, brightness.
9 Apr 2013 9:04AM
Two excellent images, Dave!
I do like the atmosphere that the lighting gives to V1 and the way you are led into
the picture by the sweeping railings.
It's interesting to see the variation in tide levels and the effect that has on the
current.

An interesting comparison, V1 is so much more dynamic and it's down to the long leisurely diagonal lead-in of the railings.

It's interesting to see the differences between day and night. I think I prefer night -it hides so much extraneous detail and makes a cleaner picture.

This is good light under the Chelsea Bridge. Still a nice blue.
But there is more than one way to approach this. I would try
less time but enhance the shadow and highlight......Blush

Love that clear blue sky and what wonderful reflections in V2 but have to say, for me you always excel with low-light, night time images and V1 falls right into that category yet again!
