I'm no expert but as you asked for comments here goes - as you say, the voting on here is not a reliable measure.
I really like this shot - Buster is beautifully sharp, a good pose, great expression and the background works really well. He is a bit central and low in the frame though, the classic advice of having a bit more space for the subject to move into (ie a tiny bit to the right and more in the foreground in this case) would, in my opinion, improve this shot.
I'm also not sure about the frame (frames are a very subjective thing though) but to me it seems a bit soft for a dog with such attitude and is actually stealing some of that important foreground.
Great dog.... I have one with similar colouring (and ears with a mind of their own) so he caught my eye!

Sam, I like this particular photo of Sam. I actually like where he is in the frame with more air above him. Rules are like the German language, each one has an exception. Anyway rules are there to be broken, and many images have shown that they can be very appealing without following the "correct" procedure.
I want to take images that appeal to me, and try to convey my vision of them to others. That's it.
I think the discussion of votes is a good one, and I agree with you on this.
Now I am giving you a click for Buster, because I like the image, it is memorable and gives me a good feeling. You seem to have conveyed him to me - great how his ear has not yet straightened up, love his intent look and his tail straight out - was he looking at a mallard?

I think Buster's a good looking chap. He's pretty alert. Wouldn't want to cross him, though (my jogging experiences come to mind - LOL) What sort of dog is he?
On the voting issue, I think there's a great deal in what you say but this also seems to me to be a very sociable site and very often you can see in the voting & comments people just being friendly to one another

Cheers for taken the time to see the image,Answer to your Q is pitbull,With the vote side of it.I think you should tell people the truth so thay can inprove there images,And the way to do take is say whats i your mind and try and help them.
Cheers sam

he's a great looking dog with a great stance and the ear shows his fun side imo. as for voting , the comments are the importrant parts so we can learn and vote on what you think is deserved, thats the way i look, lets face it someone may vote on a picture because they think in there eyes its good, but someone else will look at the same picture and totally disagree, it would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing

Great shot well spotted and presented (Thats how I see it) I think the frames Great, but we all have different Views, As for the votes I guess have to take them with just a pinch of salt, when you get a good comment its worth 50 votes,But I have to say this is the best site I have ever been on eveyone is so friendly I feel I am getting to know everyone,

As the above states,,very positive comments on Buster and rightly so,a great looking beast.
Love the background and colours.
Detail is bang on.
Sam,you kow the frame, personally I'd darken it a bit,,,,maybe one of the shades of busters coat.
A strong frame,I gthink it would help show busters strenght no end.(not that he needs it !!)
Its a great shot as it is but then you did ask !!!
