Pied Oyster Catcher

By Wireworkzzz
The Pied Oyster Catcher is a Native Bird that is found all round the coastlines of Australia. It is human shy and seldom allows close approach. They feed on bivalve molluscs (mussels oysters etc) which are prised apart with their specially adapted bill. They use their long bills as a probe in the mud to find food.

They seem to be here in abundance - not sure if there are regional differences.
Good shot!
Thanks Peter. They are in other parts of the world and I would imagine there would be regional difference. For example the New Zealand one has a longer beak and shorter legs so they really are minor details unless of course you are a serious bird watcher.
