Cycling Pins

By woolybill1
We interrupt the Saturday sequence of pub signs to bring you this little crop of knees recorded yesterday during Stage Six of the Tour of Britain Cycle Race, just before the top of the King of the Mountains stage at High Barns Farm near Corbridge.

Actually it's a bit nearer to Ovingham than Corbridge, but no matter; you can just about see Woolybill Towers near the top of the hill, south of the Tyne, in the far distance of #2, or would have done if I had panned up a bit. Just this once an essential detail is missing.

Quite a crowd from the EPZ Tynedale chapter had turned up to watch; at least one (MickyMc) posted a shot yesterday. Mrswoolybill has done a reportage of her own which appears here . I had hoped to try some experimental shots after getting a couple of 'bankers', such as panning with the fisheye for a laugh; however I only had time for a ranging shot of the breakaway before chancing my arm with manual pre-focus on the peloton.

Summary of Activity:
Time spent standing waiting, chatting to cyclists and photographers and sizing up each other's equipment: One Hour.
Time spent watching the police advance guard, police outriders, press cars, police outriders, team cars, police outriders, support cars and police sweeper-uppers: 15 minutes.
Time spent watching the breakaway pass: 2 seconds.
Time spent watching the peloton pass: 5 seconds.

Please Note: Serious cyclists might prefer the full frame V2 Smile

Anything but a serious cyclist Bill,but I prefer No2.
Probably would have prefered No1 had they been female pins !!!!
Good colour and detail, and I do like the ''nose wiper''.
Nice ones.

V1 is brilliant Bill. I imagine these chaps passing through so quickly, and I am only 5'5", this is probably all I would see.

I'm with both Dawn and Mick; good depth of detail and focus in both but I prefer #2.
Don't think he's wiping his nose though; with those intense stares I think this is a 4 man hit team and he's whispering into his radio to his team: "cameraman at 1 o'clock - take him out" Smile

2 super shots, No 1 for me I think they have to shave their legs, makes them more aero dynamic, super set of brown legs.

Now I understand how those cyclists manage to keep going for so long... they keep their lunch in their shorts!
Sorry Bill. Good shots, I think the close up gives a sense of power.

I'm not sure about #1, probably because the eye is led straight to an area more suitable for female members to oggle. I like the eye contact of the central cyclist in #2.

Fine shots both Bill, but V1 just shades it for me. it takes on an almost abstract look. I might have called it "hands, knees and bumpsadaisy" though !!

Such clear, sharp shots considering how quickly they zoom past. No 1 has great impact.
Had a laugh at Sam's comment. (I'm averting my eyes and just concentrating on the pins and handlebars.)
