Me And My Shadow

By woolybill1
A fruitful source of candids is those people who are so engrossed in what they are doing that they don't notice you taking aim. Typical activities are eating, finding the right track on their mp3 players (they can't hear you approach either!), chastising children/dogs/partners (ditto) and taking photographs.

This lady is engrossed in trying to take a portrait of her shadow, in bright sunlight (remember that?) in the courtyard of Krakow's Wawel Castle. You may by now have recognised mrswoolybill , still cracking on with my old Olympus. And if you remember my comments on glassware uploaded yesterday, it's that lens again!

55mm, 1/250th sec @ f16

Sorry about the background - tried to clone it out, just made it worse. But it was there.
Never did find out what the portrait looked like!

Your stories behind the photo get longer. Moira is obviously missing what ever the two ladies are looking at. You have an HC Congrats.

Wonderful shot! Moira seems totally engrossed. Will we ever see the result of her effort at that moment?
Congratulations on your H/C !!
Great that you spotted my joke yesterday; I was counting on you. I uploaded another fern and for a moment contemplated drawing attention to the opera Wagner wrote about ferns (Lowandgreen), but thought better of it Wink

I'm afraid I was only experimenting and deleted the results - though I did get a nice shadow picture on the cobbles in late afternoon sunshine...
This is Bills's first Editor's Choice and he's over the moon. But I obviously reckon I can take a chunk of the credit for it...

The first thing that struck me from the thumbnail was the letter 'L' made by Mrswoolybill and her shadow (might have influenced your title Bill).
Regarding the people in the background, please don't remove them, they are interested in something totally different.
Great stuff Bill.

I was not trying to remove the human interest - just the sections of window top left, which I find distracting.
I never noticed what the two ladies were looking at, so I must have been a fair target for a candid, too!

Personally am not phased by the window - too much focus on the subjects to notice!

I quite like this, every thing about it. I agree the window can be a little distracting but the subjects, all three are great.

This is so wonderful Bill.
You don't need to clone anything out, as you said, this is what was there, & it's what makes the pic all the more interesting.
Have you noticed that the lady on the right is looking upward, the lady in blue is looking straight across & poor Moira, in a world of her own, is looking downwards.
Wish we could record thoughts. !!!
Congratulations on your well deserved award.

It would have been an interesting pic with the lines of the cobbles with the shadow. The ladies add interest with their ''distraction ''Dont think the window is too much of a problem. And congrats on award Bill.

Bill, I have no problem with the background, it just adds to the naturalness of a skilled photographer intent on getting just the right image to upload on EPZ!

You took this at exactly the right moment, with Moira so engossed in her photography - and those two ladies (especially the one on the right) studying the scene off-camera so intently. Many congrats for the HC - it's well deserved.

Grats on the HC Bill. What a shot! Like both ideas in it - yours and Moira's. Have seen people taking their pic in front of a mirror - but never one taking a shot of their own shadow. Well done,

You have a wonderfully original PF if i may say Mr Bill , your photos are different in style from many of the members here and it's very refreshing and inventive also i would think it's sometimes risky in terms how people take it. Congrats i for one find it all inspiring and very original.
